FAQ
Questions worth answering before we talk.
A candid look at how I work, who I’m the right fit for, and how professional services marketing is changing. If your question isn’t here, just reach out.
-
I’m a strategic marketing advisor to professional services firms. Depending on what you need, that can mean sharpening your positioning and thought leadership, building a go-to-market plan for a new service or market, or stepping in as fractional or interim marketing leadership. While every engagement is different, the objective is the same: helping expertise-driven organizations stand out, build credibility, and support long-term growth.
-
Unlike an agency focused primarily on campaign execution, my role is to help clients decide what's worth doing in the first place. Having served as both a senior in-house marketing leader and an independent advisor, I bring experience leading marketing from within organizations as well as advising them from the outside. That means my recommendations are grounded in strategic thinking and the practical realities of implementation. When execution support is needed, I can guide your team or coordinate the right partners, but strategy comes first.
-
I work with expertise-driven professional services firms, primarily in legal services, management consulting, HR services and global mobility, higher education, and learning & development. Most clients have between 25 and 500 employees, though the right fit matters more than the exact size.
-
I work most effectively with leaders responsible for growth: CEOs, COOs, managing partners, founders, practice leaders, and senior marketing or business development leaders. The strongest engagements are those where a senior leader is actively engaged throughout the process.
-
Engagements range from a focused strategic project, such as repositioning or a go-to-market plan, to ongoing fractional or interim leadership. Most begin with a short diagnostic phase so we’re working from a shared, accurate picture before committing to a direction.
-
Yes. Many firms need senior marketing leadership but aren’t ready for, or don’t require, a full-time executive. I can provide that leadership on a fractional basis, or step in on an interim basis during a search or transition, including mentoring your existing team.
-
I listen first. Before recommending anything, I work to understand your firm, your market, and your goals. From there we agree on priorities and a practical plan. Strategy comes before execution because marketing is most effective when it's aligned with your business objectives.
-
Significantly, and faster than many firms realize. Prospective clients increasingly discover and evaluate organizations through AI-powered search and answer tools, not just traditional search engines. That rewards firms whose expertise is clearly communicated and easy to understand, while making it harder for organizations with unclear messaging or an outdated digital presence to stand out.
The opportunity is significant. Firms that strengthen how they communicate their expertise today will be better positioned to increase visibility, build credibility, and be discovered by both prospective clients and AI-powered search tools as these technologies continue to evolve.
-
No. AI is changing how marketing is done, but it isn't replacing the need for strategic thinking, sound judgment, or business experience. AI can accelerate research, content development, and many routine marketing tasks, but it can't determine your firm's positioning, identify the right growth opportunities, or build trusted client relationships. Those decisions still require experienced leadership. Used thoughtfully, AI is a powerful tool that supports a strong marketing strategy, not a substitute for one.
-
We define what success looks like at the outset, based on your business goals rather than simply tracking marketing metrics. That might mean increasing visibility with a target audience, building a stronger pipeline for a new service, improving alignment between marketing and business development, or strengthening your marketing function to support future growth. I'm also candid about what marketing can and can't reasonably be expected to accomplish on its own.
-
Very often, yes. Part of the value I bring is making the people you already have more effective, through clearer priorities, better structure, and hands-on mentoring. I aim to leave your team stronger and more capable than I found it.
-
It depends on the scope and duration of the engagement. A focused strategic project is priced differently from ongoing fractional leadership. I'll always be transparent about fees and what's included, and we'll agree on the scope before work begins.
-
Start with a discovery call. It's a straightforward conversation about where your firm is headed and what's getting in the way. If I'm the right fit, I'll propose a way forward. If I'm not, I'll say so and, if I can, suggest a better path forward. You can email me or schedule a discovery call directly from the Contact page.
