ABOUT
An advisor to professional services leaders. Not a marketing agency.
I've spent more than twenty years helping expertise-driven organizations communicate their value, strengthen client engagement, and support growth. Along the way, I've built marketing functions, launched new services, repositioned brands, aligned marketing with business development, and helped organizations make their expertise more visible, credible, and relevant to prospective clients.
I founded Scott Sutton Advisory to bring that experience directly to the leaders responsible for driving growth: the CEOs, COOs, Managing Partners, Founders, and Practice Leaders whose organizations are excellent at what they do but sense that their visibility, positioning, or marketing hasn't kept pace with their ambitions.
WHY CLIENTS WORK WITH ME
What I Bring to Clients
-
Marketing doesn't operate in isolation. Throughout my career, I've partnered closely with executive leadership, sales teams, and business development professionals to help firms attract clients, strengthen relationships, and pursue new business opportunities. Having built and led marketing functions, secured executive buy-in, managed budgets, and aligned marketing with business strategy, I understand the realities that shape executive decision-making, and I've learned that even the best marketing ideas succeed only when they align with organizational priorities.
-
Professional services firms don't sell products. They sell expertise and the trust that expertise must earn before a prospective client chooses to engage. I help organizations transform their knowledge into thought leadership, stronger positioning, and clearer market visibility.
From research reports and white papers to executive roundtables, webinars, and integrated campaigns, I've helped organizations showcase their expertise in ways that build credibility, strengthen client relationships, and support business development.
-
My experience spans management consulting, legal services, HR consulting and global mobility, learning and development, and higher education. At L.E.K. Consulting, I supported marketing across a wide range of industry practices, and through my advisory work I've continued to work with clients in additional sectors. Having also lived, worked, and traveled extensively outside the United States, I bring a global perspective to marketing, business development, and organizational growth.
Rather than applying a standard methodology, I draw on patterns I've observed across organizations while tailoring every recommendation to each client's market, culture, and business objectives. That breadth of experience allows me to identify possibilities and opportunities that are difficult to see from inside one firm.
-
Marketing continues to evolve, and I believe effective leaders should evolve with it. Throughout my career, I've embraced new approaches when they create genuine value, not because they're new. From early marketing automation initiatives to today's AI-enabled tools and workflows, the question I always ask is whether a new approach will genuinely improve how organizations market, communicate, and grow.
Today I'm particularly focused on two questions: how AI is changing the way expertise-driven organizations are discovered and evaluated, and how marketing and business development teams can use AI to work more efficiently while creating more time for high-value client engagement. The goal isn't to adopt every new technology. It's to help organizations remain visible, relevant, and competitive as buyer behavior continues to evolve.
“Marketing agencies are typically built to execute campaigns.
I’m here to help you decide what’s worth doing in the first place.”
MY PROCESS
How I work
Every engagement is different, but my approach stays consistent.
-

Listen First
Every engagement begins with listening. Before recommending solutions, I take time to understand the business, competitive landscape, growth objectives, and organizational realities. Good advice begins with understanding the situation, not arriving with a predetermined answer.
-

Strategy Before Tactics
Clear positioning and priorities come before campaigns and content. From there, I help clients align stakeholders and translate strategy into practical action. I've worked with organizations of different sizes, cultures, and budgets, and I've learned what's worth investing in and what isn't.
-

Built to Endure
My goal is to solve today's challenge while leaving clients with clearer positioning, stronger alignment, and the confidence to continue building on that progress long after our engagement ends. What I bring to every client relationship is curiosity, honest feedback, practical recommendations, and a commitment to telling clients what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear.
PHILOSOPHY
My Perspective
Professional services firms don't grow because they have the loudest marketing. They grow because they consistently demonstrate expertise, communicate it clearly, and earn confidence before a prospective client ever reaches out.
That's the philosophy behind everything I do. Whether someone discovers your organization through a referral, a search engine, or an AI-powered recommendation, everything they encounter should reinforce the same conclusion: they've found an organization they can trust.

Let's Start a Conversation
The best advisory relationships begin with understanding the situation, not prescribing a solution. If you'd like to discuss your organization's goals, challenges, or opportunities, I'd welcome the opportunity to learn more and explore whether I can help.
